Dear valued clients,
There is currently a severe shortage of Veterinarians and Technologists in the veterinary industry. We would go as far as calling it a crisis; for every three veterinarians that retire only one graduates. The shortage is affecting the veterinary industry across Canada and has left medical staff stretched thin. In conjunction with COVID this has dramatically affected the veterinary industry with increased demand, wait times and work load. In an ER setting the situation is further compounded by the need for a more specialized medical team.
Due to this, we have had to make the incredibly difficult decision to close overnights and some evenings beginning July 1st until further notice in order to provide the best possible care to our patients and staff alike.
How this affects you:
Open hours will vary. Please call us or check our website for day-to-day hours. We understand this is less than ideal and we hope to be able to achieve consistent hours in the future but in the interim, we will try to stay open as long as possible daily.
Orthopedic surgeries will still be performed during the week from Monday-Thursday. Medical staff will be in the building overnight to monitor patients; however, veterinarians will not be in-hospital overnight rather the doctor will be on-call. Rest assured that we will have a technologist (nurse) and support staff overnight Monday-Thursday to monitor surgical patients.
Patients that need to be hospitalized for intensive care will have to be transferred or routed directly to another 24-hour facility.
Soft tissue surgeries such as c-sections, lacerations, exploratory, etc. will be performed on a case-by-case basis.
We request at least 24-48 hours notice for prescription medicals. If your medication requires special orders (such as compounded medications) please allow additional time.
We appreciate your patience during this time and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
